Prisum Healthcare Takes Strategic Step into Blood Plasma Collection Sector June 2025

Prisum Healthcare, one of the leading suppliers of plasma-derived products and the primary provider of immunoglobulin in Romania, is preparing to acquire three blood plasma collection centers in Germany. This move marks a decisive step in the company’s positioning within the European plasma industry.

The company also plans to develop a network of plasma collection centers in Romania and Greece, leveraging German know-how and technology, once Romanian legislation permits such operations.

We have made the decision to become a strategic partner for manufacturers of human plasma-based therapies. We are considering vertical integration of our business, evolving from Romania’s leading immunoglobulin supplier into a trusted partner for all stakeholders—authorities, patients and patient associations, and business partners—all to the ultimate benefit of patients. As soon as legislation allows, we will be ready to open the first plasma collection centers in Romania. We intend to replicate this model in Greece, where we also have operations,” said Ionela Nicolau, CEO of Prisum Healthcare.

We are in advanced discussions with several producers of plasma-based therapies to develop a network of human plasma collection centers—the raw material for these life-saving treatments. We are financially prepared to take on this important role in both the Romanian and Greek markets, through our group entities Prisum Healthcare and Prisum Hellas,” said Sumer Tyagi, Director of Development.

The company’s aim is to expand its activity in human plasma collection, while promoting safety, ethics, and equitable access to plasma-based therapies. Prisum also seeks to strengthen cooperation with state authorities and various patient organizations to ensure patient access to essential therapies and support initiatives that encourage plasma donation, helping to build local capacity in plasma collection.

Through its network of plasma collection centers in Germany, Romania, and Greece, Prisum Healthcare can serve as a key link between plasma-based product suppliers and patients across the European market. The company also plans to collaborate closely with Romanian and Greek authorities to modernize legislation and align it with European standards, which require strict safety protocols in the handling of human cells, tissues, and organs.

We aim to demonstrate that we are a responsible partner, with a pragmatic and long-term vision. In addition to investing in high-performance plasma collection centers, we are ready to work closely with all relevant stakeholders. The sooner we are able to open these centers, the sooner patients in need will gain access to life-saving therapies,” Nicolau added.
