Prisum Healthcare, 25 years of activity in the pharmaceutical industry in Romania June 2019

Presentation Gabriel Păun
President of Agent Green

“The sounds we hear are live from a forest in Romania, a forest that gives us the air we all breathe. And if we sometimes feel that there is not enough oxygen, it means the forest needs us.

At Agent Green we try to make sure each of us can breathe this fresh air every day, but unfortunately, the current situation is not the happiest. Right now there are more illegally than legally cut trees. It's very worrying. This happens despite the efforts of many of us, not only environmental organizations, but also authorities trying desperately to solve the problem, but the phenomenon continues. ” said Gabriel Păun, President of Agent Green.

“Agent Green is best known for his campaigns, for fighting illegal logging, for protecting virgin forests and national parks, that is about 1% of Romania's surface, only this much has remained untouched. To protect and offer some solutions, we have several projects in progress. You heard one of them earlier. As a pilot project, exactly two years ago, at the beginning of June, we installed the first phone in the trees, in two forests where we should never hear the mower, the rifle or any other machinery. You can even hear the living creatures there. We receive alerts if something happens in the forest and a dedicated local ranger immediately goes to the intervention with the forest guard.

2 years later, the phones have passed the test of heavy winters, because they are powered by solar panels. Now we are ready to extend the project. We want to install the phones in the most important forests, the forests that provide the most oxygen, absorb the most carbon dioxide and hold the most life. Forests that are home not only to the bear, which is at the top of the food chain, but also to all other small creatures. It is a worldwide discussion, because climate change affects the whole planet, but we here in Romania can contribute to improving the situation by protecting these forests. We will not be able to do this alone, we will not be able to do this only with Prisum Healthcare, we need many more companies as allies in this project, and of course we also need the permission of the Ministry of Forests to put phones in these important forests.

We are talking about over 100,000 hectares that we want to protect, of which 24,000 hectares have entered, thanks to the efforts of many scientists, in the UNESCO world heritage 2 years ago. We are talking about 29,000 hectares of the National Catalog of Virgin Forests, an area that is growing because more organizations are studying to populate this catalog, and the strictly protected areas, the national parks. These are the forests that give us the oxygen we breathe and will allow us to give future generations the chance to live at least as well as we do now.

In the same project, wishing to finance another essential component for our well-being, for those living in the city, for the nature and for people living in the rural areas, we want to grow the forested area of the country. Right nowt we reached an unprecedented minimum in the history of Romania. I am not talking about what it was 1000, 2000 years ago, when 80% of the surface Romania occupies now were forests, I talk about what it is now, 27% of Romania. We are at 27% and the Romanian Academy suggests with great confidence we should not fall below 35, even 40%. We want to plant forests where they haven't been for millennia. New forests. Not where others have cut the trees and where they have an obligation to do so. This is their job, but also a campaign of ours, to fight illegal logging. These are the areas we want to cover in this project, to protect what is most valuable and to have as many forests as possible.

I remember now, since the 7 minutes have passed, I really enjoyed Oana's speech, it went straight to my heart and I leave with this thought in my mind, to try to do something good every day, no matter how big, so I can feel as good as she does. And speaking of Romania, I would add that I also see the good part of it, otherwise I would be somewhere else, and I wish to make a better Romania together with you. Maybe if we stop looking at what happens bad around us and try to give the best of ourselves where we live and work, then we stand a chance and I think we should start with ourselves and become the change we want to see in others. Thank you!"
